FEATURED AIDS ORGANIZATION:

REAF

Where: San Francisco, CA

Mission: "The Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation (REAF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Arts/AIDS organization dedicated to raising funds for AIDS service organizations in the Bay Area through the production of quality entertainment programs."

Formed: 1995

Serving: Primarily The San Francisco Bay Area.

Special Events:

"REAF produces 3 primary programs. An annual summer gala titled "Help is on the Way," a black-tie, all-star concert and gala; an annual holiday gala titled "Help is on the Way for the Holidays" and a series of "One Night Only Cabaret" performances with touring Broadway shows appearing in the SF Bay Area. Other smaller events are planned throughout the year as opportunities arise and schedules permit. Beneficiaries, selected through an application and review process, receive 100% of ticket sales from REAF's major events."

Needs: "REAF is primarily a volunteer-run agency dependent on scores of volunteers for managing the agency, serving on event committees and general event volunteers. We are in constant need of items for selling in our silent auctions, media sponsorship and exposure, corporate sponsorship (which receives significant benefits in return), and general operating support."

Special Volunteer Spotlight:

Gary Thackeray, REEF

"GARY THACKERAY has been a volunteer with REAF since 1995, serving as Silent Auction Chair and as a board member for most of those years. Gary is a long-time friend of founders Ken Henderson and Joe Seiler and became involved largely because the loss of so many friends to AIDS. Running the auctions committee for multiple events each year can often be a daunting task but Gary has remained dedicated and does what needs to be done to ensure auctions are successful and well run. Gary heads the IT Department at UC Berkeley, also a demanding job, and manages to balance both responsibilities, often at significant personal sacrifice. He is an integral part of our team and a big part of what keeps the agency's events going."

Special Volunteer Spotlight 2:

Al Tretuer, REEF

"ALAN TRUETER has volunteered as REAF's box office manager since 1997 and volunteered for the two years prior. Al had retired from his job at PG&E a few years prior and had been a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus so had an affinity for the kinds of entertainment events REAF produces. He has become a key member of our team managing, nearly single handedly, the box office requirements for our fundraising events and database maintenance. With Al in charge of our box office, we know things are done right and the attention to detail is meticulous. He's in integrate part of the "Help is on the Way" family."
